TESLA: One of the first companies to introduce environment-friendly electric cars in the UAE is Tesla. It has a good inventory of electric cars that have zero emissions and work on 100 per cent battery power. There are four Tesla EVs currently available in Dubai. Model S, Model X and Model 3 have been in the market for several years, a newer model had been unveiled in 2021. Model Y is a mid-size SUV with a 68 cubic feet cargo space. The car can travel up to 326 miles without requiring a recharge.

The average cost of Model Y starts at Dh180,000. Tesla Model 3 is the cheapest and Tesla Model S or Model X falls in the high-end bracket. Model 3 costs about Dh160,000 at the  

start price and the Model S and X will set you back by Dh360,000 and Dh349,125, respectively.

Tesla Model S — with its three motors and 4-wheel drive — can do the quarter-mile in a claimed 9.23 seconds. The slowest cars in the Tesla range can get to 60 mph in under six seconds. The Model S Plaid has a remarkable range of 628km — a Dubai-Muscat drive can be done in under one charge. The Model S has a 17-inch variety, while the cheaper Model 3 has a 15-inch. It has an autopilot feature that allows one to travel across various cities and make parking manoeuvres without significant driver inputs. The flat battery architecture allows for a low centre of gravity which translates to better handling. It also creates a spacious interior, allowing a seven-seat configuration on some sedan models. If you order a Plaid edition, it would take till mid-2022 to have it delivered. The cheaper model takes one to 13 weeks.

Model Y is a mid-size SUV with a 68 cubic feet cargo space. The car can travel up to 326 miles without requiring a recharge. The average cost of Model Y starts at Dh180,000. Management consultancy AFRY estimates the total cost of buying and running a Tesla Model 3 is US$0.34/km at current electricity and petrol prices. This is comparable to many petrol and diesel cars.


BMW

The German automobile giant sells four different models of electric cars in its ‘I’ series.  The BMW i3 is a B-class, 3 Series, high-roof hatchback. It had been the first mass-production car in the world with most of its internal structure and body made of Carbon-Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) leading to reduced weight and more wheels power. 

It features an electric powertrain using rear-wheel drive via a single-speed transmission and an underfloor Li-ion battery pack for long road trips. The BMW i3 is priced at Dh155,608. The BMW i3 continues to be a popular choice for those who want a hybrid-electric car.

CHEVROLET

The global automobile brand by the American manufacturer, General Motors, launched Chevrolet Bolt EV, a five-door all-electric subcompact car in 2017. It became the first electric car ever to operate on a single charge. The starting price of the Bolt EV cars here is D168,500.

The 2020 Bolt EV is built on an already class-leading range, offering up to 565 kilometres on a single charge, a 45 km increase from the previous model.

Bolt EUV is the all-new edition to be launched in 2022. It looks sleek, with bold styling that gives way to a roomy, refined interior. The 40KWH is available with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), Airbags and anti-theft alarm.


HYUNDAI

The Korean giant has three different models of electric cars available – KONA, IONIQ (Electric and Hybrid) and the NEXO. These cars are powered by a lithium-ion polymer battery that enables them to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h within seconds

Kona is a five-door crossover SUV. Kona EV is the world’s first fully-electric subcompact crossover SUV and has a range of 449 kilometres. It is one of the most efficient all-electric SUVs on the planet today.  There are four variations available in the market with prices ranging from Dh70,000 for the base SE model to

Dh95,000 for the ultimate premium model. IONIQ electric incorporates advanced technologies. The hybrid version has driver safety assist systems that act as a co-pilot to help drive safe. Its advanced systems like Blind Spot Collision Warning and Rear Parking Assist take much of the worry and stress out of driving.


NISSAN

Leaf is its best-selling electric car of all time. It can travel about 241 kilometres in a single charge making it extremely competitive in the market. Powered by a synchronous electric motor with 110 kW driving the front wheels and energy supplied by a 40 kWh Li-ion battery pack, this car can reach a top speed of 150 km/h and can make 0-100 KMPH in about 7.9 seconds.

It comes with a base price of Dh110,190. Nissan Leaf comes with features such as Auto Headlamps, Cargo area light, 12V Socket – Front Only and Moving Object Detection System. It features a signature floating roof and an innovative e-Pedal, enabling you to brake or accelerate with only a single pedal.

The car is to arrive in the UAE market soon. Nissan Middle East is mulling over the idea of officially offering the Leaf to UAE and GCC customers, with after-sales service and support.

2021 Nissan Leaf S arrives with Single Speed automatic transmission, 147 horsepower and Rack-Pinion Steering. Leaf S gives 124 mileage in the city and 99 mileage on the highway. Front and rear suspensions are strut and multi-link. Nissan Leaf S 2021 price in Dubai is Dh116,045.


RENAULT

This French car brand can compete with and beat the most competitive cars in the market in terms of both price and performance. The latest model is priced around Dh137,000 in the series. The car is powered by a 100kW R135 electric motor with a fast charging option of 50kW DC capability that can travel a whopping 389 km in a single charge. 

Renault ZOE features the most advanced electric technology yet. More than 60 patents have been filed. It has ABS with emergency brake assist, Isofix children attachment system on front-passenger and rear side seats, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors with camera and hands-free telephone system.

The car has a space-efficient design and is currently available in two grades: Life and Intens.  The French manufacturer hopes will see half of its range going electric by 2022, featuring eight new models and 12 plug-in hybrids.


FORD

The American multinational automotive company’s all-electric Mustang Mach-E produces a mileage of 248 miles to 379 miles on a single charge. The SUV has magnet synchronous motors that offer peak torque within just 0.5 seconds. Mach-E has smooth motors and 18-inch alloy wheels.

This is Ford’s first all-electric vehicle of this size. It can go from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds. One of the game-changing features is the electric dual-motor All-Wheel Drive that comes as standard. The Mustang Mach-E has two battery options, with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive available.

The Standard Range option comes with 279 miles of all-electric driving, increasing to 379 miles with the Extended Range. The Ford Mustang Mach-E allows drivers to tailor their driving experience to their needs, thanks to the choice of three drive modes – Active, Untamed and Whisper – and one will be able to adjust the engine sound and lighting to match your moods. The One Pedal Drive system is for the brake for sudden stops. Its other features include adaptive cruise control, pre-collision assist and active park assist.


GENERAL MOTORS

The American company expects to sell more than one million all-electric vehicles by 2025. It has until now launched only two: the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV.  It will launch Chevrolet Hummer EV pickup and Hummer SUV, Cadillac Lyriq and an all-electric version of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

It expects to have at least 30 battery-electric vehicles in global showrooms by 2030. The much-anticipated electric pick-up version of its legendary Hummer nameplate. Dubbed the 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 super truck will “forge

new paths with zero emissions.” The company has plans to spend US$35 billion on more than 30 plug-in vehicles by 2025 and a total of four battery plants.

 It will expand on its plans for 30 EVs globally by 2025. GM has planned to spend $27 billion by 2025. An electric Chevy Silverado pickup also is on the way. GM’s premium brand Cadillac has joined the fray with its first all-electric vehicle, Lyriq. GM plans to release at least another 21 electric vehicles worldwide by 2023 to promote zero emissions, zero crashes and zero congestion. Twelve electrified vehicles are currently in GM’s global portfolio.


PORSCHE

The all-electric car has 321-616 horsepower. Porsche’s first fully electric sports car Taycan 4S has a battery range of 463 km and it is the first production vehicle with a voltage of 800 volts. It can charge at 11kW AC charging. Taycan had been launched in multiple trims including the 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. Taycan features 13 global firsts and it generates a ludicrous 751 bhp in power and the Turbo S can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 2.8 seconds. 

The Turbo S trim is the fastest version of the Taycan. It is available in three variants comprising the 4S (AED431800), Turbo (AED601800) and Turbo S (AED781800). Cayenne E-Hybrid models have been one of the first plug-in hybrids in its segment. 340kW (462PS) and

a top speed of 253km/h push up to five sports car enthusiasts deep into their seats.

Porsche’s very first entry into the EV market features incredible acceleration – 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 2.4 seconds – as well as an aggressive power. The first production electric vehicle uses a two-speed transmission and an 800-V system. Turbo S, the sporty, most powerful version of the Taycan can reach 260 km/h or 162 mph.


AUDI

German carmaker has six electric cars in its portfolio including the Audi e-tron. With up to 408 hp of power and up to 436 kilometres of range, it is its first all-electric SUV.  It has a range of up to 436 km and charges up to (80 per cent) in 30 minutes.  It goes from zero to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The Audi Q4 e-tron is a compact crossover between luxurious and practical. Utilizing Volkswagen’s MEB modular electric vehicle platform, this EV will give other luxury electric SUVs a run for their money.  

That race will likely be a quick one: the Audi Q4 e-tron can reach a top speed of 111 mph or 180 kph and accelerate from 0-60mph (or 0-100 kph) in 6.3 seconds.

This crossover has an 82.0-kWh battery, a respectable range of 280 miles, and comfortable seating for four adults. Audi also introduced an electric SUV, sedan and a Sportback version of this model. The e-tron Sportback 55 Quattro is available at AED456750. Audi E Tron GT 2021 price is AED275250.


JAGUAR

I-Pace is Jaguar’s first all-electric performance SUV that promises luxury and delivers on tech. It has a rapid-charge time of 45 minutes for a 0-80 per cent battery. This ease of battery renewal may make up for its standard driving range of approximately 250 miles. 

This car is speedy for its genre, seeking to bridge the gap between a standard sporty vehicle and an electric car. The car boasts an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, a top speed of 124 mph. It has engaging tech features like hill climbing and descent scanners, a near-silent engine,

keyless entry, dual-zone climate control and automatically adjusting LEDs. I-PACE’s 90kWh battery is made up of high energy density lithium-ion pouch cells.

Its design and state-of-the-art thermal management system support longevity and periods of sustained maximum power. The car price starts from Dh338,500.


MERCEDES-BENZ

EQC is an environmentally conscious and eco-chic car with plush interiors, soft leather and immersive infotainment systems. It has room for five passengers, offers a driving range of 200 miles, and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Its top speed is 112 mph.  It has Apple CarPlay,

Android Auto and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Mercedes-Benz EQC 2021 price starts at Dh280,000. It has a 471 km electronic-only range (NEDC), 40 minutes charging time at rapid charging stations and zero grams CO2 emissions (combined).


TOYOTA

Prius was the world’s first mass-produced hybrid electric vehicle in 1999.   The minimum price of Toyota Prius 2020 is Dh105000 with model name Toyota Prius 2020 Iconic and comes up with the most expensive model is Toyota Prius 2020 Eco is for Dh89,100.

The production version of the bZ4X is expected to hit Toyota showrooms in mid-2022. Toyota will have a family of seven bZ models by 2025. Toyota will release 70 new electrified models by 2025, including 15 battery-electric vehicles
