Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island has been named the “world’s leading tourism development project” at the World Travel Awards (WTA). Three of Dubai’s tourism hotspots, airports and airlines also scooped out global recognition. Dubai was voted the ‘World’s Leading Business Travel Destination’ while Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) claimed the ‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’.

Dubai was voted the ‘World’s Leading Business Travel Destination’ while Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) claimed the ‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’.

The UAE won a whopping 63 WTA titles in 2021. Votes for the awards are cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee gaining the most votes in a category named the winner.

Dubai’s Mina Rashid man-made cruise terminal was acknowledged as the ‘World’s Leading Cruise Port’. In the hospitality sector, the 160-suite Armani Hotel Dubai fended off a tough field to emerge as the ‘World’s Leading Hotel’.

Burj al Arab, the world’s tallest all-suite hotel, was voted the ‘World’s Leading Luxury All-Suite Hotel’ and 237-room Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach was voted the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Resort’.

In the newcomer categories, St. Regis Dubai, The Palm, secured the ‘World’s Leading New Hotel’, whilst the barefoot chic paradise Raffles, The Palm Dubai, picked up the ‘World’s Leading New Resort’. In the aviation sector, the world’s largest long-haul carrier Emirates lifted the ‘World’s Leading Airline’ award and the ‘World’s Leading Airline for First Class’.

The ‘World’s Leading Airport’ recognition went to Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s leading airport for international travellers. Other winners include Atlantis, The Palm (World’s Leading Landmark Resort); Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai (World’s Leading Water Park); and Royal Penthouse @ Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah, Dubai (World’s Leading Hotel Penthouse).

The View at The Palm, the 360-degree observation deck that opened at the top of The Palm Tower earlier in 2021, took the title of ‘Middle East’s Leading New Tourist Attraction’. Palm West Beach that opened in 2020 won the award for Dubai’s ‘Leading Beach Destination’.

The UAE tops the world as the winner of the maximum awards in various tourism industry categories. The country got over 3,000 “destination awards” over five years in the travel, hospitality, business and entertainment categories. The UAE won a total of 282 awards overall across all six categories and the highest in the hospitality category – 182.
