The UAE holds more than 200 world records in almost every conceivable domain. The country has set records for buildings, façades, facilities, sports, lifestyle, technology, finance and banking, aviation, tourism and shopping.

The UAE’s commercial capital Dubai holds over three-fourths of these world records. And it added yet another to that list when it opened the world’s deepest swimming pool in the emirate.

Awarded by Guinness as “the deepest swimming pool for diving” on June 27, 2021, Deep Dive Dubai is 60.02m (196 ft 10 in) in depth. Deep Dive Dubai sank the record of previous record-holder Deepspot of Poland, bettering its 45.4m depth by almost one-third.

Located in Nad Al Sheba, Deep Dive Dubai’s pool holds 14 million litres of water – equivalent to six Olympic-sized swimming pools. Shaped like a giant oyster in a nod to the UAE’s pearl diving heritage, it will primarily be an indoor scuba diving facility for training and recreational purposes

“The Pearl Diving Pool is a facility of approximately 5,000m2 gross floor area constructed for His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum [the Crown Prince of Dubai],” said Guinness World Records.

Located in Nad Al Sheba, Deep Dive Dubai’s pool holds 14 million litres (3.7 million gallons) of water – equivalent to six Olympic-sized swimming pools. Shaped like a giant oyster in a nod to the UAE’s pearl diving heritage, it will primarily be an indoor scuba diving facility for training and recreational purposes, with facilities for education, training and recreation.

It includes the region’s most advanced hyperbaric chamber and is themed to resemble a sunken city – complete with an apartment, garage and arcade – that divers of all levels can explore. “It will take several dives to explore this vast underwater city, which is filled with adventure and wonder. The pool is equipped with 56 cameras to ensure the safety of the divers. State-of-the-art lighting and sound systems create a variety of underwater moods,” says the pool’s website.

The pool has two underwater habitats with a dry chamber at six and 21 metres. Deep Dive Dubai is also the region’s largest underwater film studio, complete with a media editing room, a video wall, and the ability to create different moods with 164 lights positioned throughout the pool.

The pool is a concrete structure including a circular shaft constructed to a depth of 60.02 meters. The surfaces of the pool and shaft are constructed to provide different themes at various depths of the pool. These also include props to enhance the diving experience.

With the capacity to hold events for up to 100 people and onsite catering options, it is also being positioned as a MICE venue. The freshwater is filtered and circulated every six hours through siliceous volcanic rock, Nasa-developed filter technology and UV radiation.

Deep Dive Dubai is open for bookings via its website and offers a variety of experiences including discovery dives for first-timers, scuba dives, freedives as well as diving courses and workshops on all levels of diving from beginner to technical instructors. It is open for both residents and visitors aged 10 and above.
