Dubai is recognised as a destination for higher education, offering students a vast choice

There are more than 65 colleges and universities in Dubai, offering high school pupils a range of options once they graduate from the UAE or elsewhere. Several colleges and universities are located in the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), a free zone for tertiary academic institutions.

DIAC is the world’s largest free zone dedicated to higher education. Universities and colleges located in the free zone offer more than 500 undergraduate and post-graduate programmes to more than 27,000 students from all parts of the world.

The colleges offer several different higher education systems including American, British, French, German, Canadian, Australian, Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Russian and Emirati.

Dubai is recognised as a destination for higher education. The UAE has a high literacy rate of 93 per cent. The higher education institutions in the country are required to be recognised by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), part of the Ministry of Education (MoE).

A total of 14 universities in the UAE are featured in the QS Arab Region University Rankings 2021. Of these, six are in Dubai: Zayed University (Rank: 20), American University in Dubai (#24), Canadian University Dubai (#42), University of Dubai (#51-60), The British University in Dubai (#61-70), and American University in the Emirates (#91-100). Zayed University has two campuses, one of which is in Dubai while the other one is in Abu Dhabi.

A student visa is issued to expatriate college students who are over 18 years and live in the UAE. Outstanding students can get a longer-term, five-year visa

Additionally, QS World University Rankings 2021 features eight universities from UAE including one local public university from Dubai: Zayed University (Rank: 701-750). The rankings of universities with a campus in Dubai include University of Birmingham Dubai (#87), Michigan State University Dubai (#157), University of Exeter Dubai (#164), University of Wollongong Dubai (#196), Curtin University Dubai (#217) and City University of London in Dubai (#350).

A student visa is issued to expatriate students who are over 18 years and live in the UAE. Outstanding students can get a longer-term, five-year visa. Top performing students are eligible to apply for the 10-year golden visa scheme which otherwise is for specialists in medical, scientific, research and technical fields. Students can also take up a part-time job while studying.
