It is one of the world’s top trading nations — as well as one of its richest. Besides a dominant services sector, Canada also has vast oil reserves and is a major exporter of energy, food and minerals.

Its political system is a parliamentary democracy, with its own social and political institutions. The economy is closely linked to that of the US, but Canada has its own economic institutions. Canada also has a well-developed social safety net to protect citizens from financial inequities.
